The Thruster brace allowed her to walk again – without crutches.
An elderly Surinamese lady of 65, in a wheelchair and with crutches, visited the University Hospital in Amsterdam (AMC), together with her daughter. An operation was no option for the Surinamese lady because it would be too expensive and only one conservative option remained, with a totally tailored construction because of the advanced varus angle of -35° !!! Then the Thruster option was considered.
After having examined the patient it became clear that, in comparison with the tailor-made solution, the Thruster would be a much easier solution because it was both light and strong at the same time.
The Thruster was put at maximum strength and the patient was asked to get up out of the wheelchair and continue walking with her crutches. The energetic old lady immediately walked double the pace she normally did with only her crutches. She would now be able to take a walk in her beloved garden again, something which she had not been able to do for years.
