Can the splint be worn in my normal shoe?

As long as it is not a low step-in shoe.

Do I have to buy a bigger size?

Always take the splint with you when you buy new shoes.

Do I have to gradually build up the time to wear the splint or can I start wearing it for the whole day?

You can immediately start wearing it for a whole day , inspect your foot regularly for possible red spots when you start having a numb feeling in the foot.
