Product operations

A realistic alternative to surgery.

Shock Wave Therapy experienced its first medical application in grinding kidney stones.
The principle has been applied in various university hospitals with substantial success since 1989 to treat bone fractures that were healing badly or not at all. In 1991 the “Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy” (ESWT) was used as an alternative to surgery for the first time in the case of calcifications of the shoulder and pain-sensitivity in the bones and tendons.

Treatment

Shock Waver therapy is applied in a day clinic and takes place under local anaesthetic.
The treatment can be given as a single treatment or in a programme of a few sessions. By using the orthoPACE the single treatment or a maximum of three sessions with an interval of a few weeks is to be given.
Depending on the symptoms, the doctor will establish the number and the strength of the shock waves. Each treatment will last 10 to 20 minutes. In the case of pseudo-arthritis, the treatment can last one hour.

Results

The therapy as described has been successfully applied in more than 70% of the cases. Definite pain reduction will be experienced only a few days after the start of the treatment.
In the case of some individuals, it can take a few weeks before the recovery starts. The therapy may be repeated in a few cases to guarantee that the treatment is successful.

Q&A

Why choose for a shockwave treatment instead of a surgical operation?

The success rate of a surgical operation is the same as for shockwave treatment, viz. 70%.
In this way you avoid an invading intervention for the patient who will then also have to undergo rehabilitation.
It is also cost-effective as a result of not having to be admitted to a hospital and the patient can immediately work again.

What is the difference between orthoPACE and other shockwave appliances?

We are the only ones on the market working through an electro-hydraulic principle on high energy.
This results in a greater focal zone and there is no loss of energy in that zone. This means that you only need 1-3 treatments and the effect is greater.

How much time do I need to treat a patient?

The total time from the moment that the patient enters the consultation room until he leaves it again will be about twenty minutes.
The actual therapy lasts a maximum of 5 minutes.

Is local anaesthetic essiential?

It is in principle, but there is also the alternative of cold therapy (cryo-therapy).
