Approximately 2 million people sustain a hip fracture every year. This is a fact. Typical signs of old age such as reduced strength and flexibility increase the risk of falling. This is also a fact.
However, this does not mean that elderly people should stop being active inside and outside the home. Quite the opposite!

SafeHip protectors are a comfortable and discrete aid in the prevention of fractures, also after a fracture has already been sustained. The SafeHip principle is simple, but very effective. Small cotton pants with a protective shell on both sides at hip level that absorb the shock during a fall, therefore preventing a fracture. There are hard and soft shells; the soft version may feel more comfortable in some sitting and lying postures. There are shells that have been stitched inside the SafeHip underpants, but also removable shells for easy washing of the underpants. This study was a cluster randomised study, took place over 18 months and was analysed in 18 rest homes in Norway (1236 patients).
